THE HISTORY OF RIDSECT BRAND

Ridsect brand was created by a Malaya Chinese, Mr Wang, in 1955.  Ridsect first appeared as a bottle liquid insecticide to be filled into a pump spray device. This was used by mainly rural residents to solve their household insect pest issues. Since then, Ridsect is well known for it’s effective insecticidal capability.

In the mid 1970s, Ridsect was one of the pioneer insecticides that developed into an aerosol spray can and widely used by residents living in the rural areas.  When urbanization took place in Malaysia in the 80s, Ridsect aerosol spray migrated along with the rural residents to the urban centres. In the late 80s, Ridsect overtook the urban aerosol brands to become the market leader in aerosol insecticides. Today, Ridsect is still the dominant market leader in aerosol insecticides with nearly half of the market shares.

In 1988, Ridsect was the first in the market to introduce “spray through” cap (cap with built-in actuator) in aerosol insecticides. This innovation provided consumers with convenience and improved speed to spray the insecticide at the targeted pest without having the hassle to remove the cap to press the actuator.

The success of Ridsect in the aerosol segment encouraged the brand to expand it’s equity to other segments like mosquito coils, mats and liquid vaporizers. In 1992, Ridsect was acquired by Sara Lee Corporation, an American multi-national FMCG company. By 2004, Ridsect became the leading total insecticide brand in Malaysia up till today.

Sara Lee is very concerned about protecting children’s personal information. Sara Lee will delete the information from our system when the requested activity is completed.
