1. Are insects around all the year?
volver arribaThe presence of insects depends to a great extent on weather and climate. In Tropical countries in particular, insects pest are present all year round. Generally speaking, insects pest such as cockroaches, mosquitoes, ants, flies, etc can be found all year round.
2. What differences are there between a common mosquito and Aedes mosquito?
volver arribaAedes mosquito is a different type of insect for several reasons. First, morphological: it has a very distinctive appearance, with a charcoal black body and silver white horizontal stripes. Furthermore, its behaviour has certain features that make it particularly harmful:
1. To complete its life cycle, it only needs little quantity of water, as small as the size of 20 cents coin that is contain in an ashtray, flowerpot, dry leaves, other man-made containers or puddle with a little water is enough.
2. It is gentler than night biter, Culex, and its bites are less painful and less noticeable, and lesser allergic reactions. As a result, most people will not be aware that they are bitten.
3. Although Aedes mosquitoes are more active during dusk and dawn, they are active and still bite throughout the day.
4. Aedes mosquito can fly as far as 750m from feeding site to lay eggs.
5. Aedes eggs could withstand dry environment for up to 6 months before water exist again. And by then the eggs can hatch within just 2 hours!
6. Aedes could fly up as high as 11 floors.
3. To what extent does how clean a home is influence the presence of insects?
volver arribaIf you read the insectopedia, you will see that many insects are attracted to, feed on or use to grow scraps of food, rotting organic matter or excrements. So although the presence of these things does not create the presence of insects, they do make it easier for them to establish themselves and for their population to grow. Therefore, keeping a clean home is very important for keeping insects under control.
4. Apart from using insecticides to eradicate or prevent the presence of insects, what basic steps can I take in my home?
volver arriba- If you have potted plants with bottom water holding containers, make sure the excess water is poured off regularly at least once a week to eliminate breeding larva.
- If you have vases of plants/flowers in water, make sure the water is changed and the vases are scrubbed at least once a weeks to eliminate breeding larva.
- Flush toilets that are not regularly used at least once a week
- Keep your house clean and tidy. Try to remove any possible sources of food (crumbs, grease, etc.) and hiding places for them to breed.
- Do not leave any dishes or cutlery unwashed.
- Keep food in secure, sealed containers.
- If you have pets, treat them for fleas and ticks and keep their environment clean.
- Use insecticides rationally for prevention. Take steps to eliminate insects before they enter your home whenever you see evidence that it is threatened.
- Keep rubbish containers closed or use tightly closed strong bags.
Remove any containers that could accumulate water to eliminate possible breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
5. Are the products for mosquitoes effective against the Aedes mosquito?
volver arribaYes. All our products used to eradicate and prevent the presence of mosquitoes are effective against the Aedes mosquito.
6. What insecticide should I use for the children’s bedroom?
volver arribaAll of our insecticides are registered by the local Pesticide Boards where applicable and are classed as low hazard substances (Class IV) for humans, including children.
7. What differences are there between the different insecticide systems?
volver arribaThe aerosols release minute droplets of insecticide which contact directly on the insect, enabling the insecticide to quickly enter the insect's body through its cuticle and breathing system, killing it in a very short time.
The electrical format which uses liquid, regular mat or gel mat insecticide on the other hand, releases insecticide vapour into the air. It does not kill but effectively repel mosquitoes continuously after the use of aerosol for instant killing.
Traps, such as those designed for cockroaches or ants, or window stickers for flies, do not emit any insecticide into the air. They consist of bait, for example, food lures mixed with the insecticide in some cases or, in other cases, pheromones that attract the insect so that it will feed off the product and become poisoned.
8. Where is the best place to buy insecticides?
volver arribaOur insecticides can be found in most super and hypermarkets and general trade stores and you will find our product range in any of these shops. Obviously, the number of products stocked will vary depending on the shop's size and type. In any case, all of our products contain clear directions for use and recommendations on the packaging so you will not need to ask any shop assistant how to use them.
9. Should I use gloves when handling insecticides?
volver arribaAll our insecticides have been specifically designed and registered for domestic use. Consequently, no personal protection equipment, including gloves, is required to use them. However, we always recommend washing your hands if you have touched the insecticide and, in general, you should avoid contact with the eyes, skin and mucous membranes.
10. Are there formats that are more effective than others? In what situations? What are the differences?
volver arribaAll of our products are effective and have been tested. Depending on the problem or the insect, different formats are targeted for different purposes and situations. We explained the functional differences between the various insecticide systems (aerosols, electric liquid, electric mat and gel mat, paper, coil, traps and baits) in question 7 (see question 7).
11. If I see the insect, is it better to use electrical formats or aerosols?
volver arribaIf we are dealing with an isolated instance, you can use the aerosol because the insecticide will directly penetrate the insect through its cuticle and breathing system, killing it instantly. However, if it is a recurring problem, it is better to use any repellent formats of insecticide because it will release insecticide vapour into the air constantly over a period of time to repel mosquitoes continuously.
12. Are there products that are best for preventing and others that are best for eradicating?
volver arribaAll of our insecticides have been tested and combine the functions of insect prevention and eradication although, in some cases, one of the two functions is more developed. While electrical liquids and mat/gel mat can be used both to prevent and repel, aerosols are more direct and are used more often to eradicate the insects when they are already present. Baits and traps are more appropriate for eradicating because they use bait and the insect must be present to eat the poison that will kill it.
13. Why don’t I see the mosquitoes die when I use repellent insecticides?
volver arribaRepellent insecticides such as liquid, regular mat, gel mat, gel, paper and coil are used mainly for prevention: they dissuade the mosquito from entering your home because they can sense the insecticide in the air. However, if the mosquito has already entered your home and it is resting on a wall, you will probably not know that it is there and, in most cases, it will die without you realising it. A mosquito is a small insect that can only be perceived when it is flying around you.
14. Are there insecticides that only repel and do not kill the insect?
volver arribaYes, such as electric liquid, regular mat, gel mat, gel, paper and coil.
15. Will it be bad for my health if I use insecticide when I’m in the same room?
volver arribaAll of our insecticides have been designed and approved for use in-door where there are people. To avoid unnecessary overexposure, you should always read and follow the directions for use given on the label. That way, you can be sure that you are not exposed to any hazards.
16. Is the insecticide more harmful in the aerosol format than in other formats?
volver arribaDue to the aerosol's technical features, a short time is required for the insecticidal mist created just after spraying to disperse and be distributed around the room. Consequently, in order to avoid unnecessary exposure, it is recommended to not enter the room just after spraying. Apart from this, the aerosol is no more harmful than other insecticide formats.
17. Can the insecticides be used to control pests on our pets? And on our plants?
volver arribaNever use domestic insecticides for purposes other than those for which they have been authorised and which are specified on the label. Pets and plants should suffer no harmful consequences if the directions for use are followed. However, there will be harmful consequences if the insecticide is applied directly onto them.
18. Should I unplug and turn off household appliances when using insecticides because of a risk of inflammable ingredients?
volver arribaElectrical diffusers must be plugged into the mains as stated in the directions for use. It is not necessary to disconnect other electrical devices. Read the directions and precautions for aerosols. Aerosols must never be used near flames or sources of high heat.
19. What should I do if I accidentally spray insecticide on food?
volver arribaAs a precaution, it is always best to throw away the food, as you would do if any other home cleaning or personal hygiene product, such as soap, perfumes, bleach, detergents, etc., fell on the food.
20. Which insecticide format is least harmful for the environment?
volver arribaOur insecticides have been designed for minimal environmental impact. Each product is formulated with components that minimise the risk of harming the environment if they are used in accordance with the directions for use.
The aerosols do not contain freons or chlorofluorocarbons (CFC). Consequently, it does not damage the ozone layer.
Electricity consumption by the electrical diffusers is 12 times less (approximately RM0.40 per mth for daily usage up to of 8 hours per day) than the electricity consumed by a 60W light bulb.
21. What is the difference between regular aerosol and waterbased aerosol?
volver arribaBoth regular and waterbased aerosol are as effective and efficacious in killing mosquitoes. Waterbased however leave minimal residue and is also suitable to be sprayed around plants and household fabrics materials.
